Speaker: Responsible investment budget - measures for sustainable economic growth

Through Responsible Investment Budget approved at the 4 December cabinet meeting, the authorities are introducing measures aimed at generating economic growth, according to Speaker Igor Grosu. The Speaker mentioned that next week, the 2026 Budget will be examined in the first reading in Parliament.

'In the past four years, we have managed to stabilize the economy in the face of border war and external shocks. Even though it was tough, we maintained stability and supported the economy. With the Responsible Investment Budget, we are introducing measures to generate sustainable economic growth. We understand that this is not enough, and we are determined to continue working to increase people's real incomes,' Igor Grosu noted on his Facebook page.

The Speaker highlighted the main provisions of the 2026 Budget, emphasizing measures aimed at supporting economic growth and citizens' well-being. According to Grosu, allocations for capital investments will increase by 55%, reaching 3 billion lei, the largest increase in recent years.

Additionally, the budget includes increased investments in support programs for entrepreneurs and the continuation of funding for nurseries, kindergartens, nutrition, and repairs, to ensure healthy and well-cared-for children.

The authorities will invest in developing localities, infrastructure, and roads to stimulate trade and mobility. The minimum wage will be increased to 6,300 lei, and the salary reference value will rise from 2,200 to 2,400, particularly supporting low-income individuals.

The budget maintains compensation programs and continues investments in access to medical services. Furthermore, in 2026, a new salary law will be adopted, addressing inequities and providing improvements for vulnerable categories, including allowances, thus enhancing social equity and stability.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft state budget for 2026 at today's session. The document, referred to as the 'budget of responsible investments,' foresees record investments and wage increases and will be proposed to Parliament for examination and adoption.

For 2026, the draft state budget law provides revenues of 79.674 billion lei and expenditures of 100.574 billion lei, with a deficit of 20.9 billion lei.
