VIDEO // Deputy Prime Minister in interview with CNN: Moldova and Moldovans - true example of resilience. We stood firm against Russia's malign actions
The Republic of Moldova and Moldovans are a true example of resilience. We stood firm against Russia's malign actions. We resisted this avalanche of attempts to undermine our democracy, to sabotage, weaken, and seize our sovereignty. Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi made the statement in Washington during an interview for CNN.
The official emphasized that the efforts of the authorities and the entire society to resist interference were supported by the international community.
“Moldovans managed to resist. This is a testimony to the resilience of our society, but also to the incredible support and solidarity we have seen from the international community – from the United States, which is a trusted partner for the Republic of Moldova in strengthening our democracy, building freedom in the Republic of Moldova – and, of course, from the European Union,” said Mihai Popșoi.
The Deputy Prime Minister said he is proud that “the country was able to withstand this avalanche and this assault on democratic institutions and managed to organize free and fair elections.”
“Now we are in a position to share the lessons learned, our experience in defending the rule of law and the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova, and in guaranteeing freedoms in the Republic of Moldova, while simultaneously strengthening the security of our information space, building energy independence, and moving away from dependence on Russian gas and electricity. Even though the Republic of Moldova is a small country, Moldovans have a big heart and have demonstrated this resilience in the elections. We are happy to share this experience with other friends and allies,” remarked Mihai Popșoi.
On December 1-9, Popșoi is paying a working visit to the United States of America. During this time, the official has had meetings with representatives of the US Congress, the White House, the National Security Council, and the State Department.
On December 6, Mihai Popșoi will meet with the Moldovan community in Chicago and visit two companies managed by citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
On December 7-8, the Deputy Prime Minister will be in Raleigh, North Carolina, to meet with Governor Josh Stein, Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, and talk with Moldovan citizens living in the region. The Republic of Moldova and North Carolina enjoy a solid partnership and exemplary cooperation lasting over 25 years.
