Action and Solidarity Party's candidate for parliament speaker office says Moldova to sign EU Accession Treaty by 2028

Moldova aims to sign the EU Accession Treaty by the year 2028, Igor Grosu said declared at the contest for the speaker position. The official emphasized that the current legislature had the historic mission to transform the parliament of Moldova into the "Parliament of European Integration."

"We are committed to signing the EU Accession Treaty by 2028, before the end of President Maia Sandu's second term. Moldova is ready to advance in the accession negotiations. I know the path is not easy, requiring a lot of work—not just on behalf of members of parliament, but on behalf of people from all state institutions. Yet, when we, Moldovans, set our minds on something we believe in, we are unstoppable. We have a unique chance—to become the parliament of European integration. It's our generation's duty not to miss this opportunity," said Igor Grosu.

Grosu thanked the citizens for their trust in the September 28 elections, noting that the elections’ outcome confirmed the country's European direction.

"A month ago, on September 28, we proved through our vote that we are a nation of conscientious, brave people who know how to unite when the country's future is at stake. Thank you for maintaining the development direction of Moldova with your honest vote. The September 28 vote is clear evidence that people want to live in peace, stability, and prosperity, alongside European nations," said the cited source.

In his speech, the PAS leader also outlined the priorities for the next four years: continuing reforms, modernizing institution, and investing in economic development.

"For the coming years, we commit to raising living standards, modernizing institutions and investing to ensure economic growth. With the support of our European friends, we will build more roads, hospitals, modernize schools and universities and support the industrialization of agriculture and the development of our businesses. We have a huge opportunity to do what hasn't been done in the last 30 years. Moldova is already evolving and coming to life, village by village, city by city," declared Grosu.

He also highlighted Moldova's resilience in the face of crises in recent years.

"In the past four years, we have ensured peace and economic stability. We stood by people in difficult times, when overnight, and for no reason, the Kremlin decided to leave us in cold and dark, or when Russia waged a war of aggression in the neighboring country, Ukraine. But we endured—thanks to our unity and our friends," he emphasized.

Also, Grosu said that justice reform and strengthening state institutions would stay a constant priority:

"We will continue to implement necessary changes to have a strong, independent legal system which serves the citizens. I want to thank the state institutions employees who, at key moments in the history of Moldova, chose to protect the national interest. Thanks to your courage, we have demonstrated that we can build a strong and genuinely independent state."

In conclusion, Igor Grosu made a call for unity and collaboration among all political forces.

"I also have a message to my colleagues in the opposition—let's commit to governing for all Moldovans, regardless of whom they voted for. Let's build bridges between us and work for the common good of Moldova. The European path is not of PAS, nor is it of any party. It belongs to the citizens—they chose it, they decided it and we must work for what they have chosen," summarized the cited source.

According to the procedure, the parliament speaker will be elected by secret ballot. A special commission composed of 11 members, including six representatives of the Action and Solidarity Party Fraction and one member appointed by each of the five parliamentary opposition factions, was established to organize the election.
