More than 8,000 policemen to ensure public order in Moldova on day of elections

Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/ - More than 8,000 Interior Ministry’s (MAI) employees will be involved in the process of ensuring public order on 24 February.   

According to MAI’s data, the police have taken all needed measures to ensure   order at the ballot. Thus, policemen will have the mission to ensure security nearby the polling stations and maintain the public order.  

About 4,000 employees will get involved to guard the polling stations and over 3,000 will ensure public order and will react to eventual notifications received from citizens. Also, a reserve strength was established, which will be permanently prepared to act in emergency situations.  

MAI’s data shows that two policemen will be at each polling station opened outside Moldova, who will monitor and ensure the good carrying out of the voting.  

The law-enforcers demand that electoral contenders and their supporters notify the authorities in cases of infringements. At the same time, in order not to allow encroachments on the legislation on the day of elections on 24 February, law-enforcers recommend that the citizens do not enter polling stations with fire guns or white arms, do not destroy electoral lists or posters, do not take the ballot paper out of the polling station.  

Moldova’s citizens with right to vote are expected to vote to elect the future parliament on 24 February. For the first time ever, the ballot will take place according to a mixed electoral system, in which 50 MPs will be elected on party lists and 51 – in uninominal districts.
