Orange wind warning issued in Moldova; authorities provide recommendations for population
The State Hydrometeorological Service has issued an orange warning for strong winds for April 26, 2026. According to forecasts, between 10:00 and 21:00, large areas will experience intensification of northwesterly winds, with gusts of up to 19–24 m/s, and even up to 26 m/s in some places.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) is warning the population about the increased risks of vegetation fires, falling trees and other dangerous situations, and is issuing a string of recommendations to prevent incidents.
The authorities urge citizens to act responsibly and to follow these safety measures:
• avoid burning dry vegetation or household waste in open spaces;
• do not throw cigarette butts, lit matches or other flammable objects on land with dry vegetation;
• avoid staying near old trees, power lines or unstable objects;
• do not touch power cables that have fallen to the ground, in order to prevent the risk of electrocution;
• park vehicles in safe places, away from trees, tall buildings or objects that may fall;
• supervise children and do not allow them to play near trees or damaged structures;
• limit outdoor travel during strong wind gusts.
The IGSU emphasizes that the observance of these recommendations can prevent emergency situations and protect lives and property.
In case of danger or emergency situations, citizens are urged to immediately call the single emergency service 112.
