VIDEO // Europe Day to take place in Chisinau, Soroca; EU Ambassador to Moldova invites citizens to celebration

Moldova is preparing for celebration: Europe Day will be marked with an extensive agenda of cultural, educational and interactive events organized in Chisinau and Soroca. The Delegation of the European Union, together with the member states, invites citizens to discover European values and the support provided to the country.

The central highlights of the agenda are two large-scale events: the European Town in Chisinau, organized on 9 May on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN), and the European Towne in Soroca, which will take place on May 16.

EU Ambassador to Moldova Iwona Piórko extended an open invitation to all citizens:

“It is an honor to celebrate Europe Day for the first time in Moldova – a country that impresses with its beauty, the richness of its culture and traditions, its growth potential, and, above all, its extraordinary people. Moldova is going through a historic moment on its path towards the European Union, a deep process of transformation meant to bring concrete benefits to citizens: investments, better jobs and more opportunities. Let us fully seize this historic opportunity – for peace, for freedom, and for growth,” said Iwona Piórko, Ambassador of the European Union to Moldova.

In Chisinau, the event on May 9 will start at 13:00 and will bring together 22 EU member states, dozens of EU-funded projects, and public institutions. Visitors will enjoy activities for all ages, from games and contests for children to interactive experiences for adults. The main stage will showcase European cultural diversity – Irish dances, flamenco, Hungarian folklore, as well as French and Greek music.

The evening will conclude with an exceptional concert by Gabriel Nebunu, Minelli, Alternosfera, and other beloved artists.

In Soroca, on May 16, the public will be able to explore European culture and EU-supported local development projects, with the event culminating in a concert featuring Gabriel Nebunu, Akord and Carla’s Dreams.

In both cities, visitors will be able to savor European dishes, take part in handicraft workshops and enjoy various cultural activities dedicated to all generations. In addition, writer Ionela Hadarca will present to the public her book titled, The Price of the Smile, produced with EU support.

Throughout May, the European Film and Culture Festival will also take place in more localities of Moldova, with free entry, giving the public access to films, exhibitions and performances.

Europe Day, annually celebrated on May 9, marks the historic moment of the Schuman Declaration, which laid the foundations of European cooperation and of the present-day European Union. In the context of Moldova’s European path, this year’s edition acquires a special significance, showing the country’s aspirations for integration and development.
