PM urges young people from Southern Moldova and Ukraine to study at Angel Kanchev University branch of Ruse opened in Taraclia

Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Dorin Recean has made an appeal to the youth in the south of the country, as well as those from Bolgrad and Ismail districts in Ukraine, to enroll at the branch of Angel Kanchev University of Ruse (Bulgaria), which operates in Taraclia.

'My dear Bulgarians, congratulations! Today is a historic day for the Bulgarian community, as well as for our entire country. Here in Taraclia, a European university opens, a very good university that we have awaited for so many years. I want to congratulate those who will study at this university. It is an important step for the whole region, and I want to encourage all young people from Taraclia, Cahul, Gagauz autonomy, from the districts of Ukraine – Bolgrad and Ismail – to come and study at this university. As Prime Minister, I strongly supported this project,' stated Recean.

The assets of the former Grigore Tamblac State University of Taraclia have been officially transferred to Angel Kanchev University branch currently operating in the same town. The agreement was signed by Ministers of Education from the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria – Dan Perciun and Krasimir Valchev – in the presence of both Prime Ministers: Dorin Recean and Rossen Jeliazkov.

The Ruse University branch was officially established on April 2, 2025, with the inauguration held on April 24, 2025. It is the first Bulgarian university to open a branch outside the country's borders.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov welcomed the educational cooperation, considering it an essential step in strengthening the cultural and academic ties between the two states.

'It is an extraordinary project, and I want to thank the Republic of Moldova for the cooperation. In 2025–2026, specialties in fields such as sciences, informatics, agriculture, technology, business, and linguistics are planned,' stated Jeliazkov.

He also reaffirmed Bulgaria's full support for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova and expressed willingness to contribute to the diversification of the country's energy sources.

The visit of the two officials to Taraclia sends a strong message of support for quality education, interethnic cohesion and common European path.
