Sleet, black ice on Moldova's roads; drivers urged to adjust speed

Law-enforcement officers urge drivers to drive cautiously and adjust their speed to the weather and road conditions. The warning is issued in the context of the Yellow Code for complicated weather conditions.

According to the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), drivers must maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.

“Make sure your car is properly equipped for the cold season. Use the low beam lights and check whether the lighting systems are clean and functional. Avoid unsafe maneuvers. Do not use the phone while driving. In case of difficult traffic situations, request police intervention,” the IGP said.

National Police officers are on the ground and constantly monitor the road situation, in order to promptly intervene where necessary.

Meteorologists have issued a Yellow Code for complicated weather conditions, valid as of January 4 10:00, till January 5, 14:00, across the entire country. On this period, widespread freezing rain, sleet deposits and black ice on roads are expected.
