Ukrainian president conveys message in Romanian in Chisinau: “Ukraine loves Moldova! We respect its people and its independence”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today evening addressed the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, who gathered on the Great National Assembly Square in Chișinău at a concert dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of Independence. The Kyiv leader began his speech in Romanian and delivered a message of support for the independence and European path of the Republic of Moldova.

Zelensky greeted the crowd and congratulated Moldovans on Independence Day, switching during his speech between Romanian, Ukrainian and English.

“Glory to Ukraine! Hello, Moldova! Congratulations on your Independence Day! Thank you for being here with us!”, said the Ukrainian president.

In front of the thousands of people on the Great National Assembly Square, Zelensky paid tribute to those who fought for independence and emphasized the importance of freedom for both states.

“Free people of free countries!”, the Ukrainian leader said, then continued his message, speaking about the people who contributed to achieving the independence of Moldova and about those who are defending Ukraine’s freedom.

“We must thank you for those who fought for independence and are here with us today. We thank you for all our soldiers! We are heroes! And I am sure we will remain independent and united for the years to come!”, Zelensky stated.

The President of Ukraine spoke about the European path of Moldova and about the prospect of a united Europe in which both Moldovans and Ukrainians live in freedom and dignity.

“Moldova has achieved a lot in these 35 years. You are a wonderful country! You are a wonderful nation! A European nation!”, said Zelensky.

The Ukrainian leader expressed his conviction that Moldova and Ukraine would continue their European journey together.

“I am sure we will remain united countries! We will all be part of Europe! A Europe that is free! This is the most important thing for our people!”, he affirmed.

Zelensky stressed that the citizens of the two countries share common aspirations: a life of safety, dignity and freedom in their own states.

“We all want to live in the same way! And we want to live with dignity in our country! And we want to remain European nations!”, the President of Ukraine said.

An important part of the speech was dedicated to the war in Ukraine and to the threats that, according to Zelensky, Russia poses to Ukraine, Moldova and the region.

“Everything we want does not coincide with what Russia wants! Russia is doing many things to remain present in our lives in Ukraine, in Moldova, and to make them difficult for us,” said Zelensky.

He reaffirmed before the audience in Chișinău Ukraine’s determination to defend its freedom and independence, ending his message with the slogan “Слава Україні!” (“Glory to Ukraine!”).

Zelensky conveyed a direct message of friendship and respect towards the Moldova, addressing both its citizens and the country’s leadership.

“Ukraine loves Moldova! We respect your country; we respect your people! We respect your independence!”, the Ukrainian president declared.

Zelensky also spoke about his close relationship with President Maia Sandu and about cooperation with Romania, highlighting the ties between the three states.

“We are confident in your president, Moldova! And we are good friends with Romania and with President Dan!”, said the leader from Kyiv.

At the end, Zelensky wished the people of Moldova peace, love and victory.

“I wish you only good things! Love! Love and victory! Thank you very much!”, concluded Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Ukrainian president’s speech took place on the Great National Assembly Square, where thousands of people attended the concert organized for the Independence Day of Moldova.

Volodymyr Zelensky is in Chișinău today on a visit, together with President of Romania Nicusor Dan, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Moldova.
