VIDEO // Environment Ministry installs seven new absorbent dams to stop pollution on Dniester River
The installation of seven new absorbent dams on the Dniester River is the main intervention action planned for today by the Ministry of Environment, aimed at limiting the spread of pollution from petroleum products. Minister Gheorghe Hajder is coordinating the activities carried out by technical teams in the northern and central sectors of the river basin.
The environmental authorities’ intervention strategy focuses on strengthening the first collection line at the point where the river enters the country, in the village of Arionești in Dondușeni district. In this sector, four additional dams are being installed today, a measure deemed necessary to stop the upstream spread of oil slicks.
In the central area, three more dams are being placed upstream of the Dubăsari reservoir and in adjacent locations identified as vulnerable. In addition to industrially manufactured absorbent equipment, intervention teams have begun producing their own dams using specific absorbent materials.
The manufacturing process of these protective devices is carried out under the guidance of experts from the Prut-Bârlad River Basin Administration within Romanian Waters institution.
