VIDEO // Special measures at border before Easter: authorities promise shorter waiting times

Border authorities in the Republic of Moldova announce that they have stepped up measures to streamline traffic at border crossing points ahead of the Easter holidays, when an increased flow of travelers is expected.

The head of the Moldovan Border Police, Ruslan Galușca, said that the institution has mobilized additional resources to avoid congestion.

“In the context of the Easter holidays, all necessary measures have been taken to streamline cross-border traffic. Additional workstations have been created and staffed, and the reverse procedure will be applied, as it has proven to be very useful,” Galușca said.

Director of the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova Radu Vrabie specified that the institution will deploy specialized teams to speed up checks.

“The Customs Service will operate with mobile teams, canine teams, and we will work mainly on the basis of risk analysis in order to facilitate crossing the border as quickly as possible for citizens,” Vrabie said.

According to the authorities, the measures are being implemented jointly with Romanian institutions, based on bilateral cooperation. Officials urged citizens to check in real time the situation at border crossing points and to make sure their travel documents are valid before departure.

“We have good cooperation with the Romanian border authorities, and the same measures will be applied on both sides. We urge citizens to check the situation at the crossing points live and choose the less crowded route,” he added.

The representatives of the institutions also conveyed holiday messages to citizens.

“The authorities stand by citizens to make border crossing as easy as possible. Have a wonderful Easter and we look forward to welcoming you home,” said Radu Vrabie.

“I wish everyone a happy Easter and bright holidays alongside your loved ones,” concluded Ruslan Galușca.
