MIA system surpasses 900,000 users: 13.2 billion lei in payments processed in 2025

The number of people using the MIA Instant Payments system has exceeded 900,000, meaning it is now accessed by almost every adult in the country. In 2025 alone, the system processed approximately 15 million payments worth 13.2 billion lei, signaling a major shift in consumer behavior. The information was presented by the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) at an event dedicated to instant payments in the Republic of Moldova.

First Deputy Governor of the NBM Petru Rotaru emphasized that instant payments are redefining the way companies manage financial flows, providing speed, efficiency, and a real competitive edge.

“The MIA system is not just a technical solution, but also a driver of modernization for the entire national economy. Its success depends directly on our joint capacity – the NBM and payment service providers – to offer citizens a simple and intuitive user experience. With this product, we have removed barriers to digitalization and turned MIA into an indispensable tool that reduces reliance on cash and brings tangible benefits both to consumers and to the business environment,” said Rotaru.

Its was launched by the NBM in March 2024 and is a service that allows individual users to make and receive payments in just a few seconds, using only a phone number, without card details. Transfers are made between national bank accounts in Moldovan lei.

In July 2025, P2G – Person to Government payments – were launched within the MIA Instant Payments system, an innovation that allows citizens to pay more than 120 public services immediately, safely, and without fees, directly from mobile applications.

At the same time, since March the MIA system can be used by companies to carry out instant transfers between legal entities (Business to Business – B2B). Thus, companies can initiate and receive transfers in Moldovan lei continuously, including outside the working hours of payment service providers, with real-time settlement in just a few seconds.
