President on International Romani Day: Only through appreciation and mutual support we can build more inclusive and stronger country

President Maia Sandu delivered a message today on International Romani Day. The head of state emphasized that “only through appreciation and mutual support will we be able to build a more inclusive and stronger country, where every person matters and no one is left behind”.

The official noted that this day calls on us to become aware that respect for each person’s dignity lies at the foundation of a just and prosperous society.

“Dear citizens of Roma ethnicity, I congratulate you on International Romani Day and wish you good health and many achievements. We know that there are still challenges – from access to education and jobs to prejudices that limit the opportunities of Roma people. Moldova moves forward when it chooses to be united. The progress we have made together shows that change is possible when we build bridges between communities and act in solidarity. And through knowledge and openness, we all learn to value Roma culture as a valuable part of our shared heritage. Only through appreciation and mutual support will we be able to build a more inclusive and stronger country, where every person matters and no one is left behind,” Maia Sandu said.

International Romani Day was established in 1990 and is marked annually on April 8. It represents a moment to recognize the identity, culture, and contribution of Roma people, as well as to reaffirm the commitment to respecting their fundamental rights.
