The women’s national team of Moldova has earned an important result at the 2027 World Cup qualifiers, drawing 0-0 with Romania in a match played in Nisporeni on June 5 evening.

Romania’s women’s national football team was held to a goalless draw by Moldova, 0-0, in Nisporeni on June 5, in their last match in Group C5 of the 2027 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, according to Agerpres.

The hero of the match was goalkeeper Margarita Panova, who saved a penalty taken by Mihaela Ciolacu on the 66th minute, keeping a clean sheet for the Moldovan side and playing a decisive role in securing a valuable point.

The Group C5 game was played at the City Stadium in Nisporeni in front of 548 spectators.

Romania had their biggest chance to score in the second half, but Margarita Panova’s inspired save maintained the deadlock on the scoreboard.

The match was also special for two Moldovan players. Nadejda Colesnicenco made her 60th appearance for the national team, while Polina Mazur made her debut for the senior side. The team coached by Ghenadie Pușca will play its last match of the current qualifying campaign on 9 June in Larnaca, against Cyprus.

On the 66th minute, Mihaela Ciolacu (Romania) missed a penalty.

The draw against Romania gives an extra boost of confidence to the Moldovan women’s team ahead of their final qualifying test next week in Cyprus.

In the final group standings, Romania finished first with 10 points, followed by Moldova with 2 points and Cyprus with 1 point. The last match will be Cyprus vs Moldova (June 9).

Following the results in League C, Romania have been promoted to League B for the next edition of the UEFA Women’s Nations League. On 18 June, the Romanian team will find out their opponent in the first round of the play-offs for the 2027 World Cup, as well as potential opponents in the second round, should Romania advance. According to UEFA regulations, Romania will play their first two matches against a League A opponent, chosen from the teams that finished on the 2nd and 3rd places.
