Moldovan national football team gains first victory after two-year break
Chisinau, 7 June /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s national football team on 6 June defeated the team of Azerbaijan with the score 1:0 in a friendly match played on the Chisinau-based Zimbru stadium.
The only goal of the match was scored by Vitalie Damascan in the minute 8 after a centering by Igor Costrov. This is the first victory of the Moldovan national football team, after a two-year break.
In the second half, the Azeri assaulted the goal defended by Cristian Avram, but failed to equal. Avram, who made his debut at the national team, had a good play.
The coach of the Moldovan national football team, Roberto Bordin, said the victory was important from the moral viewpoint. ‘’Obviously, we everybody were waiting for this victory. After we had a good play in the match with Turkey, it was important for us and for the supporters to gain victory,’’ Bordin noted.
The national football team last time gained a victory in June 2019, when it defeated the national team of Andorra with the score 1:0 in a friendly match.
On 1 September, Moldova’s national team will play against the national team of Austria in a match of the qualifiers for the 2022 World Football Championship.
