Another 1,200 inhabitants of Criuleni have access to drinking water under European Village Program
Chisinau, Nov 13 /MOLDPRES/- Another 1,200 residents of Criuleni have access to drinking water on tap. This became possible after a new 6.7 km long water supply network was built in the city and a portion of the old network was rehabilitated. The works were carried out under the European Village program, 1st edition.
The old water supply system of this micro-region of the city, built in the 60s and 70s of the last century, had in recent years reached a deplorable state, with rusty and damaged pipes, which hardly ensured water supply for the residents of the sector. As a result, residents frequently faced water shortages in their households.
Following the implementation of the project, all 350 households in the sector (about 1,200 people) were connected to the new drinking water supply network, including two public institutions, namely Criuleni Court and Grigore Sirbu House of Culture, as well as 25 local economic agents.
The government, through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, has allocated 6.5 million lei for the project's implementation.
Criuleni mayor Mihail Sclifos said that Criuleni, especially this sector, had an extremely outdated water supply system, which frequently faced massive water leaks. Residents were disconnected from the network for long periods and water shortages were becoming an acute problem, especially as many of the wells in the area were dry, the mayor said.
The first edition of the European Village program has a budget of about 1.8 billion lei and includes 496 local development projects. 469 of them have already been carried out.
