
Comrat city designated CIS cultural capital
Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/- Comrat has been designated cultural capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for 2023. The decision was made at a meeting of CIS heads of state, held last weekend online.
The interstate program Community Cultural Capitals was launched in 2011 and has so far been implemented in most CIS member countries.
For the designation of the city in this capacity, selection procedures are carried out in the member countries, following which the proposal on the candidate city is submitted to the CIS Humanitarian Cooperation Council.
Comrat is a city with the status of municipality, the capital of the autonomous region of Gagauzia in the Republic of Moldova. The city is located in the south of the country and has a population of over 20,000 inhabitants.
