Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/- Residents of Gagauzia today celebrate Kasim, traditionally marked on the day when Orthodox Christians of the old rite celebrate the Holy Great Martyr Dumitru.
In the Gagauz autonomy, the Kasîm folk holiday signifies the end of the harvest and the preparation for winter. On this day, the sheep owners count their animals, pay the shepherds' work and hand the sheep around for the winter. In the Gagauz language "kasîm" is the popular name of November.
By Kasîm, in every locality in the region are organized divine services and festive meals, especially in the municipality of Ceadâr-Lunga, where the patron saint of the locality is marked.
"Kasim is an important event in the calendar of Gagauz holidays, which symbolizes not only the end of the agricultural season, but also the love of the Gagauz people for the country and its land, hospitality and diligence. We are going through several crises, of a pandemic, economic and social nature, and such events make us stronger and more resistant ", governor of Gagauzia Irina Vlah said.
According to a decision of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia, November 8 is declared a day off in autonomy.
Holidays Kasim, Hederlez, Pipiruda, etc. are included in a project to safeguard the Gagauz language and cultural traditions in the Republic of Moldova, initiated by the authorities of our country with the support of the US Embassy in Chisinau.
