Chisinau, May 4. /MOLDPRES/- From this month, Soroca fortress is closed to visitors, as the second stage of restoration of the medieval fortress has begun, according to the Northern Observatory.
Thus, the inhabitants and guests of the city from the north of the country will not be able to enter it to avoid being exposed to danger. The actions take place within the project "Ștefan cel Mare, common history-shared heritage, Soroca-Vaslui", funded by the European Union.
The first stage of restoration of the Soroca Fortress lasted almost two years and ended in 2015. As part of the Soroca Fortress reconstruction project, the fortress towers were restored, the guard road was repaired and the terrace above the cellars was waterproofed. At the same time, the stairs at the entrance were repaired and the citadel courtyard and the area related to the museum were landscaped. Also, three access roads to the citadel were restored. The total cost of the reconstruction project was three million euros, money coming from European funds.
In the second stage of restoration, the reconstruction of the wooden gallery around the main tower is foreseen.
