
Moldova qualified for final of Eurovision Song Contest 2017
Chisinau, 10 May /MOLDPRES/- Moldova was qualified for the grand final of the Eurovision 2017 contest, due on 13 May in Kiev, Ukraine. The country was represented by SunStroke Project band that played the song “Hey Mamma”.
In the first semifinal 18 countries competed, representatives of Moldova performed with number 12. They were announced the first qualified for the grand final, followed by Azerbaijan, Greece, Sweden, Portugal, Poland, Armenia, Australia, Cyprus and Belgium.
Eurovision is an international music competition, organized by European Broadcasting Union, the largest public television association in Europe. The first edition took place in 1956 in Lugano, Switzerland. Ukraine also hosted the Eurovision contest in 2005. In 2016, Jamala won the competition with the song “1944”.
So far, Moldova has been represented at the Eurovision Song Contest by Zdob și Zdub, Natalia Gordienko, Natalia Barbu, Geta Burlacu, Nelly Ciobanu, Sun Stroke Project and Olia Tira, Pavel Parfeni, Aliona Moon, Cristina Scarlat, Eduard Romanyuta and Lidia Isac.
