VIDEO // Romanian foreign affairs minister says Romania, Moldova united by common future in European Union

We are united by the same language, history, common traditions and especially by a common future in the European Union. We are more closely bound by an extended agenda that prioritizes the European integration process of Moldova. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Oana-Silvia Toiu today made statements to this effect, during a joint press conference with Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi in Chisinau.

The Romanian official noted that her visit was taking place during an extremely important period for both countries, in the context of the parliamentary elections due in next autumn.

“On September 28, 2025, the citizens of Moldova will elect a new parliament. Romania trusts the country's European path and supports the decision to this end expressed through referendum. We all have before us the example of Romania, where we see the positive and unprecedented transformations brought by the  integration into the European Union. It provides the security, peace and prosperity that we need. Thus, I want to thank the citizens of Moldova for their contribution to Romania's prosperity and its European way, as we have built everything together,” said Oana-Silvia Toiu.

The minister assured that Romania would continue to support Moldova in strengthening its resilience.

“Together, and also alongside other European partners, we can ensure the management and prevention of hybrid attacks. I can assure you that President of Romania Nicusor Dan will soon return to Chișinău, and his first official visit was also here, because our common relationship, beyond the history we share, our values and culture, is based on a common future in which we invest together,” said Oana-Silvia Toiu.

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi emphasized that today's discussions showed not only the progress and common achievements in bilateral and European terms, but also the firm commitment to strengthening the friendship and collaboration between Moldova and Romania.

“The Moldovan-Romanian relations are based on a solid strategic dialogue and an ambitious future agenda, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, economic development and European integration of Moldova. Romania is our country's main strategic partner and its multidimensional support is essential in transforming and integrating Moldova into the European Union. The active political dialogue and sectoral collaboration reflect this real partnership. The numerous visits by Romanian officials to Chisinau have contributed to deepening the bilateral agenda and continuing to support key projects. At the same time, the recent visit to Chisinau by Romania's President Nicusor Dan marked an important step in our cooperation, reaffirming Romania's unconditional support for stability, democratic development and the European path of our country,” Mihai Popsoi stressed.

Also, the Moldovan foreign minister said that the political support, technical expertise and financial assistance provided by Romania were invaluable at all stages covered by Moldova in the European integration process.

“In the spirit of the bilateral strategic partnership for our country's European integration, we have continued the dialogue on the European future of Moldova, the progress made and the next steps in the process of accession to the European Union. The political support, technical expertise and financial assistance provided by Romania in the EU accession process are invaluable at all stages covered by our country. We count on leveraging the strategic partnership between Chisinau and Bucharest and we want to work together, in order to deepen this cooperation and advance in the EU accession process. We thank Romania for the constant support provided to Moldova, which stays committed to its European path and promoting reforms. We will continue the bilateral collaboration for a common, secure and prosperous future,” highlighted Mihai Popsoi.

Oana-Silvia Toiu today pays her first official visit to Chisinau as Foreign Minister of Romania, at an invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi.

The visit’s agenda includes meetings with President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and the Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
