Cheaper gas might lead to lower prices for district heating in Moldova

The cutting of natural gas’ tariffs might lead to lower prices for district heating. Director of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) Constantin Borosan today made statements to this effect, after ANRE has ruled to reduce the tariff paid by end consumers for gas.

Borosan emphasized that ANRE had requested district heating suppliers to submit applications for tariff adjustments by February 5, given that the regulated gas price has decreased and most district heating suppliers purchase natural gas at regulated prices.

“Most district heating suppliers purchase natural gas at regulated prices. Considering that ANRE has examined Energocom’s request regarding the approval of regulated prices for natural gas, a letter was sent on February 2 to all license holders requesting that, by February 5, they submit to the Agency applications for the adjustment of regulated prices for the supply of thermal energy,” said Constantin Borosan.

ANRE today approved the decision to cut natural gas tariffs. Thus, the tariff decreases by 2.15 lei, so that one cubic meter of gas will cost 13.35 lei, excluding value added tax (VAT), compared to the current price of 15.50 lei. VAT is added to the regulated tariff, which means that the final gas price will be 14.42 lei per cubic meter of gas, compared to 16.74 lei (including VAT) at present, a difference of 2.32 lei.
