Energy and infrastructure – essential pillars in Ukraine’s reconstruction

Energy and infrastructure are becoming key elements in Ukraine’s reconstruction, and the Republic of Moldova is taking an increasingly active role in this effort through the development of interconnections and the strengthening of regional cooperation. The topic was discussed today during an international panel, where investments and cooperation between the countries in the region were highlighted.

Present at the event, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Carolina Novac, emphasized that energy, infrastructure and logistics are interconnected pillars of Ukraine’s reconstruction and of stability in the region. The State Secretary referred to recent challenges, including the power outage of 31 January 2026 and the disruption of the Isaccea–Vulcănești line, underlining the importance of regional cooperation.

“Recent events have demonstrated both our vulnerabilities and the strength of regional cooperation. In both cases, close coordination between Moldova, Ukraine and Romania made it possible to quickly restore supply and ensure the continuity of electricity delivery to consumers,” the official noted.

In her speech, the State Secretary highlighted the progress made by the Republic of Moldova in developing energy infrastructure and strengthening interconnections.

“At present, we are connected with Ukraine through 21 power lines and with Romania through several interconnections, but we continue to invest in expanding them, including through the development of three new 400 kV lines, which will significantly increase energy security at the regional level,” said Carolina Novac.

At the same time, the official underlined the importance of integrating the Republic of Moldova into the European energy market and aligning with European Union standards. She also mentioned that the authorities are focusing on eliminating dependence on energy resources from the Russian Federation and on developing infrastructure for green energy, including hydrogen and biomethane.
