CNMC warns of risk of temporary disconnections during peak hours
The National Crisis Management Center warns that, in the absence of a reduction in electricity consumption, there is a real risk of implementing temporary disconnections to maintain the balance of the power system.
The authorities are appealing to all categories of consumers — citizens, local public authorities and economic operators — to reduce their energy consumption, especially during peak hours, between 6:00 and 9:00 in the morning and between 17:00 and 23:00 in the evening. Failure to comply with these recommendations may worsen the energy deficit and affect the continuity of supply for all consumers.
Basic services and critical infrastructure will be supplied with priority, in order to ensure the continuous operation of vital services and the protection of citizens. By contrast, the supply of non-essential consumption depends to a large extent on the responsibility of each user.
The CNMC underlines that the authorities are using all available mechanisms to manage the situation and ensure the necessary imports, but the effectiveness of these measures depends on the active cooperation of the population and on understanding the exceptional nature of the situation.
The Center recommends that citizens adopt simple measures to reduce consumption during critical hours and to prepare for possible temporary outages: rational use of electrical equipment, avoiding the use of elevators during peak periods, ensuring alternative sources of lighting and charging mobile devices.
Enterprises with high energy consumption are urged to schedule their activities outside peak hours, while administrators of public and commercial buildings must reduce indoor lighting by at least 30% and switch off shop windows and advertising lighting.
The CNMC reiterates that the responsible involvement of every consumer is essential for maintaining energy balance and preventing power outages.
The Republic of Moldova could face difficulties in ensuring electricity during peak hours on Friday, March 27, Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu has warned. The official stated that although solutions were found for March 25–26 to cover consumption needs without resorting to emergency energy, the situation for Friday remains uncertain.
