European integration and more open economy for entrepreneurs

European integration and the integration of the Republic of Moldova’s economy into international economic circuits and flows represent the “top priority” of new Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Claudiu Năsui. The official made the statements after taking his oath of office today at the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova.


“I am particularly honored to be part of this Government and to be part of this success story that is the Republic of Moldova,” Claudiu Năsui said.


The minister emphasized that the main objective of his mandate is European integration, including by connecting Moldova’s economy to international economic circuits and flows.


“The top priority is European integration and the integration of Moldova’s economy into all international economic circuits and flows,” Năsui said.


Referring to the Republic of Moldova’s experience in the field of digitalization, the minister praised the progress made and said that there are areas in which other states, including Romania, could adopt certain solutions developed in the Republic of Moldova.


“There are extraordinary things in Moldova, and I say this as someone who has observed things from the outside: there are things from which many other countries, including Romania, have much to learn. In digitalization you are very advanced here,” the official noted.


At the same time, Năsui aims to help simplify procedures and reduce the administrative burden for entrepreneurs. Claudiu Năsui believes that entrepreneurship is the main engine of a healthy economy and one of the main pathways to prosperity. According to the minister, supporting entrepreneurship will be one of the central directions of his mandate, and the goal is for the Republic of Moldova to become a state as open as possible to the business environment.


“When you support entrepreneurship, you do many things for yourself as a country and as an economy, and this is one of the main things I intend to do here. So, to complete the chapters of the Growth Plan, the integration chapters, to integrate the things that started with the fall of communism and, above all, to open this country so that it becomes the most open to entrepreneurship in the world, if possible,” Claudiu Năsui said.


The new minister believes that the economy of the Republic of Moldova has development potential, but that reforms are needed to tap into it, including some that are difficult in the short term.


“It is an economy that is developing and can do much more if it undertakes certain reforms. And precisely these reforms, which are hard, difficult in the short term but are what make you better in the long term, are what Moldova needs,” Năsui declared.


Regarding the new budget and fiscal policy, the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization specified that he will provide more details in due course.

Claudiu Năsui has taken over the portfolio of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization and took the oath of office today at the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova.

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan underlined in his speech at the swearing-in ceremony that economic development must be closely linked to the European path of the Republic of Moldova and that an important objective in the new minister’s activity will be to make the state apparatus more efficient by reducing waste and bureaucracy.

At 41 years of age, Claudiu Năsui is a Romanian economist and politician. He was a member of parliament from USR and served as Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism between December 2020 and September 2021. On August 25, President Maia Sandu granted him citizenship of the Republic of Moldova.
