DOC // Irina Vlah's funds and other internationally sanctioned people officially blocked by State Tax Service

The Republic of Moldova has moved to the practical application of international sanctions after the government decided to align with the restrictive measures recently imposed by Canada against Moldovan citizens accused of cooperating with the Russian Federation in destabilization activities.

Under Law No. 25/2016 regarding the application of international restrictive measures, the State Tax Service (SFS) issued the first decisions to block funds and economic resources, which were published in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova. Among those targeted are former governor of Gagauzia Irina Vlah, as well as individuals such as Veaceslav Valico, Dmitri Buimistru, along with other names included on the Interagency Supervisory Council list.

The official documents, signed by the director of the State Tax Service (SFS), Olga Golban, provide for the suspension of access to bank accounts, real estate, and other resources.

For example, in the case of Veaceslav Valico, the decision explicitly states: "The blocking of the funds/economic resources of citizen Veaceslav Valico is ordered as follows: bank account no. (...) USD and bank account no. (...) MDL. This decision is sent for execution to the commercial bank and published in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova, with the depersonalization of data."

Similar measures have been ordered in the case of Irina Vlah, where several accounts opened at commercial banks in the country have been blocked, and the decision is forwarded to the National Bank, the Intelligence and Security Service, and financial supervision institutions.

Previously, Prime Minister Dorin Recean stated that authorities would not tolerate attempts to undermine national security, emphasizing that the Republic of Moldova is aligning directly for the first time with sanctions instituted by a North American strategic partner.

The blocking decisions can be contested at the SFS within 30 days, but until any complaints are resolved, they remain enforceable.

Thus, the Republic of Moldova sends a firm signal: those working in the interest of foreign powers will be sanctioned, and financial resources used for destabilization purposes will be frozen.
