Energy Minister: Energocom purchased 90 percent of gas needed for cold season

Energocom company has already purchased about 90 percent of the natural gas required for 2025-2026 cold season, which means about 700 million cubic meters of gas. Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu made the statement today.

“The authorities, through Energocom, have already purchased over 90 percent of the gas needed for the 2025-2026 gas year, including covering the requirements for the winter season. The authorities ensure the safety and uninterrupted delivery of gas for the cold season,” stated Dorin Junghietu.

Regarding a possible adjustment of natural gas tariffs, the minister emphasized that this possibility will be analyzed only after the gas acquisitions are completed. “The safety stocks still need to be acquired, and subsequently, the tariffs will be analyzed,” the minister mentioned.

Energocom announced today that, in total, 54 bidding rounds have been conducted so far for the natural gas procurement procedure, with the participation of 13 companies from Switzerland, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, and the Netherlands. 26 of the rounds were successfully concluded.

At the same time, Energocom emphasized that the procedure for acquiring the additional volumes needed to establish the storage obligation (15% of the total volume forecasted for a gas year) has been initiated. This amounts to approximately 1.45 million MWh, which is equivalent to 137.45 million cubic meters and will be stored in neighboring countries.

According to Energocom, the purchased gas is for firm delivery in the respective month of consumption and is acquired both at a fixed price and at an indexed price which is correlated with quotations on major exchanges in Central and Southeastern Europe like TTF (Title Transfer Facility) in the Netherlands and BRM (Romanian Commodities Exchange).

Energocom has become starting September 1 the natural gas supplier within the public service obligation and last resort supply. Thus, contracts concluded by consumers with Moldovagaz remain valid, being taken over by Energocom without the need for re-signing them. Meanwhile, the current tariff for natural gas remains unchanged, with any modification being exclusively set by ANRE.
