EcoVoucher Program continues to bring savings: nearly 2,000 families received vouchers for energy-efficient appliances in October
About 2,000 families in the Republic of Moldova benefited in October from support under the governmental EcoVoucher Program, aimed at replacing old appliances with new, efficient, and energy-saving ones.
According to data from the National Center for Sustainable Energy (IP CNED), 1,967 vouchers were used in the new session of the program on October 3–19, 2025.
The majority of vouchers — 1,656 — were used by families with two children, and 311 by families consisting of elderly persons over 63 years old. Beneficiaries were selected based on established eligibility criteria and registrations made on compensatii.gov.md.
In this round, families purchased 952 refrigerators and 1,015 washing machines with high energy efficiency. The replacement of old appliances with efficient models allows for a reduction in energy consumption and savings on electricity bills of at least twice.
“The program is already yielding concrete results - more and more families are managing to significantly reduce their energy consumption and use the savings for other important household needs. From one session to another, we aim to expand the program's impact and provide direct support to families who need practical solutions to reduce energy costs,” said Ion Muntean, CNED director.
Each voucher has a value of 6,000 lei and covers up to 70% of the cost of a new appliance — either a refrigerator or a washing machine. Beneficiaries also enjoy free delivery and the collection of old equipment for recycling.
“We are pleased to see how EcoVoucher directly supports families with children and the elderly. The program offers practical solutions for reducing energy costs and increasing home comfort, while also promoting environmental protection,” noted Kamilla H. Kolshus, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Norwegian Embassy Office in Chisinau.
Christian Borchard, implementation manager of the Norway-funded E4M component within GIZ, emphasized that EcoVoucher Program provides immediate results in reducing energy consumption. Participating households become true ambassadors of the energy transition, contributing to decreasing electricity demand and CO₂ emissions.
In total, since the launch of the program, approximately 39,000 families in the Republic of Moldova have benefited from vouchers for large appliances. In the 2025 edition alone, funded by Norway, over 24,700 vouchers have been redeemed.
The EcoVoucher Program was developed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova with support from the European Union and is implemented by the National Center for Sustainable Energy within the “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies for Moldova (E4M)” project, carried out by GIZ and funded by the Governments of Germany, Norway, Denmark, and the European Union.
Additional information about the program, the list of partner stores, and voucher usage instructions can be found on the official website www.ecovoucher.md.
EcoVoucher Program aims to support vulnerable households in transitioning to efficient energy consumption, reducing pressure on the national energy grid, and contributing to environmental protection. The initiative is part of the government's efforts to implement energy efficiency and sustainability policies in accordance with European standards.
