Fuel stocks could increase in coming period

Fuel stocks are expected to increase in the coming period, after a slight decrease caused by fluctuations in import flows.

Director of the National Crisis Management Center Serghei Diaconu made the statement today.

The official noted that in recent days the amount of diesel fuel has decreased due to import flows, but the situation has now stabilized, and stocks are expected to grow in the near future.

“The amount of diesel fuel has been in a slight decline, but we need to understand that this decrease is due to import–export flows. There was a lower import flow, precisely because prices before rebalance were unfavorable for imports. Now it has stabilized. We are waiting for the next imports. We requested a very clear schedule of these imports, and the schedule, the import plan, was presented. Stocks are to be replenished and we do not expect a decrease but on the contrary, an increase in these stocks, a return to the situation in which we had at least ten days of stocks, and the Government will also take the subsequent measures required in order to raise the stocks to fifteen days, as we have planned,” said Diaconu.

Regarding the duration of the state of emergency, Serghei Diaconu mentioned that the authorities are preparing legislative amendments that would allow the state of emergency to be applied for a period between 30 and 90 days, with the final decision to be taken by Parliament.

“International practice shows us that this state of emergency, in most countries, is established for a period of 60 or 90 days. Even in Romania, the state of emergency was established for 90 days. We will come forward with proposals for amendments, which are already being prepared, in which we will propose that the state of emergency in the future be established from 30 to 90 days, depending on the risks that will be presented to the Government and Parliament, and the decision will be taken by Parliament. It will be 30, 60 or 90 days,” said Diaconu.

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova established a nationwide state of emergency for a period of 60 days, starting on March 25, 2026, at the Government’s proposal, after the Isaccea–Vulcănești overhead power line was disconnected on the evening of Monday, March 23, following attacks on energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine. The line was put back into operation on Saturday, March 28.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said today that the state of emergency will not be maintained for even one day longer than necessary. The official stressed that he has requested a full report on the current situation in the energy system and an action plan with concrete deadlines that would allow a return to a normal regime. “Our objective is clear: to be able to go to Parliament next week with all the data and propose the repeal of the state of emergency under safe conditions for citizens,” Munteanu said at the beginning of today’s Government meeting.
