Moldovan PM has discussions with mayors from Ocnita district
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today had a discussion with representatives of local public authorities and deconcentrated services from the northern Ocnita district, focusing on completed projects, as well as the current needs of communities in the northern region.
In talks with the mayors, the PM addressed topics related to infrastructure, access to basic services and the region’s economic potential, emphasizing that this potential must be harnessed to attract investments and create opportunities at home.
In recent years, through the European Village, European Village Express and European Village 2 programmes financed by the government, 26 projects have been implemented in the Ocnita district, with a total value of over 86 million lei. In 2025, roads’ infrastructure benefited from investments worth over 30 million lei from the Road Fund. Communities of the region are also supported by the Energy Efficiency Fund in the Residential Sector in Moldova, through the Household Appliances Voucher Programme and the Sustainable Transition through Energy Efficiency in Moldova Project.
To stimulate investment in the northern region, the Ocnita Multifunctional Industrial Platform was launched in Ocnita, where utility connections and partial infrastructure development works have already been carried out, with investments of 21.1 million lei.
An important topic of discussion was the local public administration reform, the concept of which is to be launched soon and aims to create stronger municipalities. “It is essential for this process to be simpler, clearer and to take into account the will of the communities,” emphasized the prime minister.
Among the main issues raised by local elected officials, there are the accuracy of data used in decision-making, the need to extend access to drinking water in more localities and the improvement of roads’ infrastructure.
Prime Minister Munteanu appreciated the involvement and openness of the mayors: “It is important that problems are discussed directly and responsibly. We are continuing direct dialogue, in order to find real solutions tailored to each community,” said the Prime Minister.
The Ocnita district has a population of around 31,000 inhabitants.
