Farmers’ registry launched in Moldova: less bureaucracy, easier access to funding
The farmers of Moldova will be able to register in the Farmers’ Registry, an information system meant to keep records of farmers and data related to agricultural holdings. The launch of the new system today was announced by the Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu.
The official said that the information system was made available to farmers primarily as a mechanism for transparency, predictability, reduced bureaucracy and more efficient relations between the state and farmers.
“It provides a unique identification for farmers. The beneficiary will be registered only once, with a single profile, which in the future, through a cascading effect, will mean that multiple reports, registrations and exchanges of information between different authorities of Moldova will no longer be required. This will reduce the administrative burden, both in terms of time and expenses. Farmers will not need to access multiple information platforms; instead, the information platform will be interoperable with other information systems,” said Eugeniu Osmochescu.
The minister noted that the information system would serve as the basis for state assistance provided to farmers and represented a mechanism that would enable farmers of Moldova to access European funds.
Data on approximately 20,000 farmers has already been entered into the new information system. Going forward, farmers who need registration assistance can receive support on behalf of the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry and the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture.
The development of the system cost 33.7 million lei, provided by the European Union. It was created with technical support on behalf of the United Nations Development Programme.
