Prime Minister meets with UN Secretary-General

The Government of the Republic of Moldova

The Republic of Moldova is counting on the support of the United Nations to strengthen resilience, advance reforms, and further its European path. The message was conveyed by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan during his meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, held in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

The Prime Minister praised the UN’s consistent support for the modernization of the Republic of Moldova, including justice and public administration reform, economic and social development, strengthening energy resilience, and adaptation to climate change.

“The Republic of Moldova is building a European, modern, and democratic state, and the UN is an important partner in this process. We continue to rely on this cooperation to advance reforms and strengthen the country’s resilience,” said Tofan.

During discussions on regional security, the official reiterated the Republic of Moldova’s commitment to the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and the maintenance of stability in the region. At the same time, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the Republic of Moldova’s solidarity with Ukraine and support for a just and lasting peace, in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.

The dialogue also focused on the future priorities of the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the United Nations. The Government will contribute to the development of the new Cooperation Framework for the period 2028–2032, so that support is aligned with the country’s development objectives and European integration agenda.
