Nearly 500 children took up President’s reading challenge

President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met at the Presidential Administration with some of the children who took part in the reading contest launched by the head of state.

Nearly 500 children from across the country wrote to the President about the books they read during their vacation: “At the beginning of the summer, I challenged children to put their phones and tablets aside from time to time and read a book. Nearly 500 children wrote to me about the books they read during their vacation, their favorite characters, and the stories that made them laugh, dream, or discover new things,” said the head of state.

During the meeting at the Presidential Administration, the children talked about the books and heroes that had stayed in their minds and discussed with the President how reading can become a daily habit. One of the ideas discussed was dedicating the first 30 minutes of the school day to reading.

Maia Sandu praised the children’s interest in books and the curiosity with which they discover the world through reading. “I am glad that we have curious children who enjoy reading and who have so many questions and ideas. I thank everyone who responded to my challenge, as well as the parents, grandparents, and teachers who encourage them to read. I urge you to read and remain curious,” said the President.

As a token of appreciation for their participation and passion for reading, the children received diplomas and certificates for purchasing books from bookstores.
