Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/- The land allocated to the construction of Chisinau Arena will remain permanently owned by the state. Arena after being fully paid within 10 years will remain in state ownership. Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici made the statements today.

The government has started from the fact that Moldova does not have a multipurpose room at international standards, ready to host large events and sports meetings.

“Simply, our material base is not modernized, and this has a negative impact on the education and sports activity in Moldova, and I refer not only to the top sports competitions, but also to the practice of leisure sports. All studies show that the need for spaces of entertainment and culture for young people is insufficient. There are very few places where young people can go together, have fun, have access to interesting events with international participation. This project has long been required for at least 10 years, I would say. Now there is the vision and political will to move from idea to deed,” he said.

Gaburici said that the land allocated to the arena will remain permanently owned by the state. “I’ve had many analyses, looking for the best formula. The financial estimate of the feasibility study shows that this project will cost between 30 and 50 million euros. Therefore, the right solution is to create a public-private partnership whereby a private investor assumes the construction of the arena from his own funds and the public partner will then reimburse the investment made in a manner to be negotiated under the contract,” he said.

He said that only 10 of the 10 hectares owned by the state will be dedicated to the arena. The remaining about 59 hectares will be managed by the state as a reserve for a potential and very likely subsequent development of the area.
