Prime Minister discusses European integration and strengthening economic cooperation with Croatian and Slovenian counterparts in New York

In New York, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan held meetings with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša. The discussions focused on the Republic of Moldova’s European path, the development of bilateral relations, and the expansion of economic cooperation.

The European integration of the Republic of Moldova was one of the main topics of the meetings. The officials discussed the next steps in the accession process, as well as the support and expertise that Croatia and Slovenia can provide to the Republic of Moldova at this stage.

“Croatia and Slovenia know very well how much joining the European Union can transform a country. We need the support of our friends in the EU to advance quickly, based on merit, and to turn progress in the negotiations into concrete results for the people,” said Vasile Tofan.

He discussed the development of economic relations at the meeting with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. In the first half of 2026, trade between the two countries increased by 40%, reaching €69.1 million. Tofan encouraged the growth of Moldovan exports, the attraction of Croatian investments, and the development of joint projects.

During the meeting with Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša, the expansion of economic cooperation and the use of Slovenian expertise in the European integration process were discussed. The Republic of Moldova is interested in intensifying trade and investment relations and in cooperating in areas such as energy and the green transition, digitalization and innovation, tourism, and regional development.

Tofan emphasized that dialogue with the two European partners will continue, with a focus on concrete projects that support the development of the Republic of Moldova and the country’s progress toward accession to the European Union.
