Moldova to become global capital of wine and vine this summer

On June 16-20, 2025, the Republic of Moldova will become the global capital of wine and vine, hosting the 46th World Congress of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV). The event's concept was presented in Paris during a meeting attended by diplomats, international experts and representatives of the wine industry.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) Andrian Digolean highlighted the progress of Moldova's wine industry over the last ten years.

“Ten years ago this was a dream, and today it has become a reality. Today, Moldovan wines are present on the global market, being exported to over 70 countries. Moreover, in the last decade, they have won over 7000 awards and medals at international competitions and tastings,” Digolean said.

For his part, OIV director-general John Barker said this year's event topic fully covers the organization's strategic priorities.

The June event aims to support and encourage Moldova's wine industry and its passionate people who, in recent years, have managed to transform the field into a leading one. The Congress will help establish new partnerships and reposition the country on the world map of quality wines.

Moldovan Wine Route is included in the cultural itinerary Iter Vitis - Les Chemins de la Vigne. It is part of the country's tourist destinations and top events, such as the open-air classical music festival DescOperă, which has been held every June in Orheiul Vechi for over ten years.
