Moldovan Infrastructure Ministry says national roads passable, road workers active across country
Traffic on the national roads of Moldova is taking place in typical winter conditions; the roads’ network is functional and under constant monitoring, announces the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR). The authorities have received over 100 calls from citizens.
"At this time, road traffic is taking place in winter conditions, with fog and black ice on more road sections. The roads are passable, with no blockages. Road workers stay on duty around the clock; all national arteries are continuously monitored and interventions are carried out promptly and efficiently, both manually and mechanically, through preventive works to combat slipperiness, for the safety of all road users," says the National Road Administration.
According to the MIDR, road maintenance teams are mobilized in the field and intervene quickly where the situation requires it, to combat slipperiness, patrol and supervise high‑risk sections, and keep the carriageway in a passable state.
Interventions were carried out as a priority in the districts of Edinet, Ocnita, Floresti, Drochia, Balti, Orhei, Rezina, Calarasi, Straseni, Anenii Noi, Hancesti, Ialoveni, Cimislia, Causeni and Stefan Voda, on important national routes including M1, M3, M5, R30, R26, R20, R7 and G47.
To ensure safe traffic conditions, 145 special vehicles and 334 road workers were deployed. In total, approximately 1,304 tons of road salt and 845 tons of anti-skid material were spread on the carriageway.
The authorities urge drivers to exercise increased caution, adjust speed to road conditions, and follow the instructions of road workers in the field.
The State Hydrometeorological Service announces predominantly cloudy weather throughout all over Moldova. During the night, light precipitation is forecast over large areas, mainly in the form of rain. Meteorologists warn about the formation of fog and light black ice, conditions that may lead to the appearance of ice on roads and sidewalks.
