One of package of cigarettes to cost at least 35 lei in Moldova as of 1 April
Chisinau, 1 April /MOLDPRES/ - The State Fiscal Service (SFS) has informed that, starting from 1 April, the maximal retail selling price of cigarettes, which represents the basis of imposing excise duties, cannot be lower than the reference price.
SFS detailed that, under the provisions of the Article 1233 from the Fiscal Code, the reference price (for one package) represents the value resulted through imposing (multiplication) of the quota of the minimum excise duty for the concerned year at the volume in natural expression (1,000 units) with the coefficient 1.46, multiplied by the number of cigarettes in a package and divided by 1,000.
For this year, the minimum quota of the excise duty for 1,000 units of cigarettes of cigarillos represents 1,198.75 lei (about 48 euros), so that the reference price for one package which contains 20 units of the concerned product is 35.0035 lei.
Also, SFS reiterates that, starting from today, the sale by any person of cigarettes or cigarillos at a price lower than the reference one (35 lei) - (Article 1233, paragraph (3) from the Fiscal Code) - is banned. The infringement of this provision entails the imposing of a fine worth from 30 to 50 per cent of the value of cigarettes or cigarillos which are in stocks at the moment of the control.
