Moldovan government approves mechanism to protect trade with European Union

The government has approved a regulation on the mechanism for informing and monitoring major obstacles to trade. The tool will more effectively protect the interests of local producers, prevent economic losses caused by trade blockades, and ensure safer conditions for the export of Moldovan products to the European Union.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization (MDED) emphasized that the initiative represented an important step towards ensuring the free movement of goods both within on the national territory and in relation to the European Union.

Thus, the project sets clear rules for identifying obstacles that could affect Moldovan exports and provides a quick intervention mechanism when such situations arise.

“The EU market is quite important for our economy. Presently, two-thirds of goods are exported to the EU market. Today we are proposing an information and monitoring mechanism for major trade obstacles. Our goal is to prevent and quickly resolve any barriers which might block the free movement of goods in Moldova and between our country and EU,” said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitization Doina Nistor.

The main institution that will manage the new mechanism and communicate directly with the authorities of the European Union will be the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization. Besides, all public authorities of the country will collaborate with each other through special protocols, in order to respond to any trade-related problem as quickly as possible.

The mechanism is aligned with European legislation and best practices and fits the commitments taken by Moldova in the process of joining the European Union.

According to statistics data, the European Union is Moldova's largest trading partner and the biggest export market for Moldovan products.
