Rules for establishing wealth tax to be changed in Moldova
The rules for establishing the wealth tax will be changed. The new criteria will be analyzed and included in the fiscal and budgetary policy for next year, and will enter into force on January 1, 2027. Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilita today made statements to this effect.
“The wealth tax, which takes into account real estate properties, is to be revised within the fiscal policy and will enter into force on January 1, 2027. There, we will take into account all considerations, such as updating; we will review the rates, the thresholds, perhaps also the percentage or even the tax as a whole. We will certainly return to this aspect and, within the fiscal policy, we will come forward with adjustments to the wealth tax,” the minister said.
The minister also explained which categories of citizens will be affected by the new changes.
“Presently, we are talking about an estimated value of wealth of about 200 average salaries and a total housing area of 120 square meters. These criteria – salaries and housing area – will be revised: on the one hand, the parameters, on the other hand, the tax rate. But we will return to these aspects, when we get closer to this exercise. I believe that, in the next 2–3 months, we will discuss the fiscal policy. But I assure you that citizens with low incomes will suffer the least or will not be affected at all by these changes,” the finance minister emphasized.
The wealth tax is a tax applied on the taxpayer’s wealth in the form of residential real estate, including holiday homes. It has been applied since the 2016 tax period.
