Significant diesel price cut: cost drops by 1.17 lei

Fuel prices are decreasing during the Easter holidays. Over the next few days, diesel will become significantly cheaper, by 1.17 lei, while for gasoline drivers will pay 0.03 lei less.

More precisely, tomorrow diesel will cost 33.32 lei per liter, the price decreasing by 1.17 lei, according to data from the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE).

The institution emphasized that the drop is driven by the reaction of international markets to the announcement of a temporary cessation of hostilities in the Persian Gulf region.

At the same time, gasoline is becoming cheaper by 0.03 lei per liter and will cost 29.80 lei.

The price cuts in the coming days follow today’s first decrease in diesel prices felt by drivers in the Republic of Moldova after the announcement of the Middle East armistice, with the price set by ANRE being 0.49 lei lower.

ANRE announced that the trading session on Wednesday, April 8, strongly influenced by the announcement of the temporary cessation of hostilities in the Persian Gulf region, as well as by Iran’s agreement to reopen traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, led to a significant drop in the Platts diesel quotation, the product most exposed during this period, the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) stated today.

Thus, the diesel price on foreign exchanges recorded a decrease of approximately 230 USD/ton on the trading day, positively impacting the average quotations that form the basis for calculating the maximum reference prices set by ANRE.

The maximum retail prices for main standard petroleum products are set by ANRE, taking into account the average value of Platts quotations, the official average exchange rate of the national currency against the US dollar, the specific commercial margin, the excise rate, and the VAT rate.
