VIDEO // Moldovan authorities announce tax benefits for citizens with mortgage loans

An MP of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Victoria Belous, announced that, starting from 2025, individuals who had taken a loan to purchase their first home would be able to benefit from a tax deduction for the interest paid.

According to Belous, taxpayers will have the right to reduce their taxable income by the amount of interest paid on the mortgage loan, up to a limit of 16,100 lei annually. This benefit will be available to people who have purchased their first home on credit and are not beneficiaries of state programs like First Home.

In the case of properties held in joint ownership, the right to deduction is given to each loan beneficiary proportional to his/her share. At the same time, the total deduction amount for both spouses cannot exceed the cap of 16,100 lei per year.

To benefit from this facility, taxpayers must possess the loan contract and a bank statement confirming the amount of interest paid. Additionally, they are required to submit their income tax declaration for the year 2025 to the State Fiscal Service, reflecting the expenses incurred for the mortgage loan interest.

This measure is part of the fiscal policy package promoted by the authorities, aimed at supporting access to housing and reducing the financial burden for young families and individuals purchasing their first home.
