Moldovan energy minister says competent ministry has clear goals for attracting investments, development of renewable energy

Local renewable energy sources covered up to 10 percent of the total electricity consumption in January – March 2025 and in April, they provided over 20 per cent of the total consumption, reaching a historical maximum of 34 per cent on one of the days. The figures were presented by the Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu has unveiled figures to this effect. The minister participated in the IX Balkan Energy Summit, held in Athens, Greece, on April 29-30, 2025.

Junghietu emphasized that Moldova had quite clear goals for attracting investments and developing renewable energy.

“The winners of the first auction for the construction of wind and photovoltaic power plants, with a total capacity of 165 MW, will be announced soon, with the estimated investments from this round amounting to about 200 million euros. At the same time, in the next autumn, a new round of auctions will be launched for the construction of large renewable parks, which will also include modern energy storage systems,” the minister said.

At a panel discussion on the strategic energy cooperation in the Balkans, Dorin Junghietu reiterated the country’s interest in the Trans-Balkan Electric Corridor, as an integral part of the national strategy for strengthening energy infrastructure and diversifying energy supply routes and sources.

Also, Dorin Junghietu reiterated the indispensability of the Vertical Corridor for the energy security of Moldova and for ensuring continuous natural gas deliveries. He also emphasized the importance of establishing a single and transparent tariff along the entire route of the corridor, as a key instrument for strengthening commercial viability and long-term sustainability.

On the sidelines of the Summit, Dorin Junghietu had discussions with more officials and industry experts, exchanging views on the development of strategic projects for diversifying energy sources and Moldova’s integration into the European energy networks.
