European Parliament to open liaison office in Chisinau
The Republic of Moldova is a priority for the European Parliament, and in the near future, the European institution will open a Liaison Office in Chisinau. Vice President of the European Parliament Victor Negrescu has made statements to this effect. He noted that the proposal belonged to him and that it would be discussed at the Standing Bureau.
The European official gave assurances that, in the current session, which started on today in Strasbourg (France), the MEPs will give the final vote for the support package for Moldova.
“We will approve the Growth Plan for Moldova, amounting to 1.9 billion euros, a package we have amended, in order to provide effective support, including the Diaspora, rural areas, or cross-border projects with Romania,” Negrescu said in a posting on social network.
The Vice President of the European Parliament said that he would intervene in several key debates, such as the situation in Romania – democratic challenges, the threshold of 100 billion euros from European funds and the need for transparency and public communication.
An intense week with “major decisions” is expected in Strasbourg, Negrescu underlined. The European MPs will have debates about defense and financing, in the context of current geopolitical challenges.
“The European Union must be prepared to protect its citizens and invest wisely in security. An intense week at #Strasbourg, with major decisions concerning Europe’s future in a complicated context for #Romania!,” said Negrescu.
