Acting Prime Minister welcomes European Parliament report on Moldova
Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Eugeniu Osmochescu welcomed the adoption of the European Parliament’s annual report on the Republic of Moldova, noting that the document represents an important signal of support for our country’s European path.
“With this stance, the European Parliament reaffirms that the European future of the Republic of Moldova is a strategic priority,” said Eugeniu Osmochescu.
He thanked the European legislature for the vote and the firm support offered to the Republic of Moldova on its path towards European integration.
“The adoption by a large majority of the annual report on the Republic of Moldova and the call for the opening, without delay, of all negotiation clusters represents a sign of confidence in our country and in the efforts we are making to build a European state,” the acting Prime Minister conveyed.
According to Osmochescu, the adopted document acknowledges the significant progress made by the Republic of Moldova in the process of European integration and calls for advancing the accession negotiations by opening all negotiation clusters.
“The decision is an important political signal for the Republic of Moldova and offers concrete prospects for deepening relations with the European Union. Advancing the accession negotiations will contribute to strengthening state institutions, increasing the level of security, economic development, and improving living standards for citizens,” mentioned Eugeniu Osmochescu.
The acting Prime Minister stressed that closer ties with the European Union create opportunities for the Republic of Moldova in areas such as attracting investment, modernizing infrastructure, developing the business environment, creating jobs, and accessing European funding and cooperation programs.
At the same time, he pointed out that alignment with European standards contributes to consolidating the rule of law, combating corruption, and increasing the resilience of public institutions.
“A safe, stable Republic of Moldova, integrated into the European Union, is an advantage both for its citizens and for the security and stability of the entire European continent,” he concluded.
Speaker Igor Grosu also welcomed the European legislature’s vote. He thanked the MEPs and noted that each vote of confidence motivates the authorities in Chișinău to continue reforms.
“We thank the European Parliament for today’s vote and for the confidence shown in the Republic of Moldova. The Report on the Republic of Moldova was adopted with an overwhelming majority of 505 votes. Each vote of confidence motivates us to continue the reforms and to build a strong, prosperous European country,” said Igor Grosu.
The Speaker underlined that the Republic of Moldova is continuing its European course and that the authorities’ objective is to transform the country through reforms and the strengthening of institutions.
“Moldova is moving forward. Step by step, ever closer to the European Union,” Igor Grosu conveyed.
The European Parliament today voted on the annual report on the Republic of Moldova, which calls for the opening, without delay, of accession negotiations for the remaining negotiation clusters that have not yet been opened. The document was approved with 505 votes in favour, 115 against and 45 abstentions.
MEP Siegfried Mureșan said that the vote in the European Parliament demonstrates full support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova.
“We, the European Parliament, consider that the Republic of Moldova is a frontrunner in the accession process and that we must reward this progress by accelerating the negotiation process,” the official underlined.
At the same time, the report “condemns the repeated attempts by the Russian Federation to destabilize the Republic of Moldova, including through attempts to influence the outcome of democratic elections,” Mureșan said.
Under these circumstances, the European Parliament called for an increase in the financial and technical support that the European Union provides to the Republic of Moldova, so that it “can be safer, counter external threats and continue on the European path,” Siegfried Mureșan added.
During Tuesday’s debates in the European Parliament, European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, called for the opening of all negotiation chapters with the Republic of Moldova “as soon as possible,” emphasizing that the Republic of Moldova has carried out reforms at an impressive pace and that the support granted to the country on its European path represents an investment in a stronger, safer and more united Europe.
The Republic of Moldova opened its first EU accession negotiation cluster – Cluster 1 Fundamental Values – on 15 June 2026, during the second EU–Republic of Moldova Intergovernmental Conference held in Luxembourg.
