VIDEO // Acting Prime Minister: Opening of negotiations for Cluster 6 marks new stage in accession process and reflects progress made by our country

The opening of negotiations for Cluster 6 External Relations marks a new and important stage in our country’s accession process to the European Union and reflects the progress made by the Republic of Moldova in aligning with EU policies and values. The statement was made by Acting Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu, who is on a visit to Brussels to take part in the Intergovernmental Conference Republic of Moldova–European Union on the opening of accession negotiations for Cluster 6 External Relations.

The official stressed that this new step is the result of sustained efforts by state institutions and of close cooperation with European partners. At the same time, it reconfirms the firm commitment of the Republic of Moldova to continue implementing reforms and to move forward with determination in the process of European integration, Eugeniu Osmochescu underlined.

“Opening Cluster 6 is an important step, which in fact is confirmed by the European Union because we have implemented reforms not only to tick boxes, but also to achieve tangible results for our citizens and the private sector. Because we are talking both about security, about foreign policy, and about international relations based on the treaties to which we are a party or to which we will be a party. We have demonstrated that we can implement reforms at an advanced pace. Moreover, we have shown that these reforms bring tangible results for us, for society. Today in Brussels, at the third EU–Republic of Moldova intergovernmental conference, we will reaffirm the European path and we are ready to open all negotiating clusters for our country’s accession to the European Union,” said Osmochescu.

The Acting Prime Minister emphasized that, for the Republic of Moldova, accession negotiations represent a commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, increasing security, developing the economy and improving citizens’ quality of life.

“We will continue to work responsibly for the opening of the other negotiating clusters and for getting closer to our strategic objective – accession to the European Union,” concluded Osmochescu.

Osmochescu is paying a working visit to Brussels today, where he is taking part in the Intergovernmental Conference Republic of Moldova–European Union on the opening of accession negotiations for Cluster 6 External Relations.
