Moldova to present position to European Union on External Relations Cluster

The Republic of Moldova has been invited to present its negotiation position on Cluster 6 – External Relations within the process of accession to the European Union, under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU. According to Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, the authorities have been prepared for this step for more than a year.

“It is important now to maintain the pace of reforms. European integration is a project of the entire country, a national objective that requires a great deal of work and responsibility. Today, Moldova has a real chance to anchor itself in the great European family, where there is peace, security, numerous opportunities for citizens, and a better life,” said Cristina Gherasimov.

Cluster 6 – External Relations covers areas related to the common foreign and security policy, trade policy, and development cooperation, and is one of the six thematic groups on the basis of which the accession negotiations with the European Union are conducted.

The Republic of Moldova opened its first accession negotiation cluster with the European Union – Cluster 1 Fundamental values – on 15 June 2026, during the second EU–Republic of Moldova Intergovernmental Conference, held in Luxembourg.

As of 1 July 2026, Ireland holds the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union for a period of six months, and one of its announced priorities is to advance the EU enlargement process, including by opening new negotiation clusters for the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
