VIDEO // European Commissioner calls for opening all negotiation chapters on Moldova’s EU accession
The Republic of Moldova has carried out reforms at an impressive pace, and the support granted to the country on its European path represents an investment in a stronger, safer, and more united Europe. This message was conveyed by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, who called for the opening of all negotiation chapters with the Republic of Moldova “as soon as possible”.
“Supporting the Republic of Moldova is an investment in a stronger, safer, and more united Europe. In recent years, we have seen a country that has stood up against foreign interference and hybrid attacks and has chosen the European path, as well as the road toward accession to the European Union. This sovereign choice deserves our full support,” said Marta Kos in the plenary of the European Parliament, during debates on the reports concerning the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and Serbia.
The European official highlighted the impressive results achieved by our country in implementing the reforms set out in the Growth Plan and advocated for opening all negotiation chapters.
“With an implementation level of 93%, the Republic of Moldova is ahead of all other EU candidate countries that benefit from Growth Plans. Therefore, I share your view that we should ask the Council to open all clusters as soon as possible,” said Marta Kos.
At the same time, the European Commissioner underlined that the Republic of Moldova must continue implementing reforms, especially in the areas of justice, the fight against corruption, and economic governance.
According to her, “these reforms are essential for fulfilling the intermediary criteria required for the opening of negotiation chapters.” The Republic of Moldova opened its first EU accession negotiation cluster – Cluster 1 Fundamental Values – on 15 June 2026, during the second EU–Republic of Moldova Intergovernmental Conference held in Luxembourg.
Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov announced today that the Republic of Moldova has been invited to present its negotiating position on Cluster 6 – External Relations – within the EU accession process, under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the authorities in Chișinău have been ready for this step for more than a year.
