Food security discussed at meeting of Supreme Security Council
Chisinau, June 8 / MOLDPRES /- President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu convened yesterday the meeting of the Supreme Security Council on food security of the Republic of Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.
At the meeting, the reports and analyzes of the public institutions aimed at ensuring agri-food reserves and the supply of the internal market were heard, as well as the efficiency of the agri-food sector as a whole. In this context, the discussions focused on actions to be taken to:
Efficient operation of value chains and ensuring access of domestic products in markets and marketing networks;
Elimination of the effects of the monopoly position, obtained by non-competitive methods, which some irresponsible economic agents have on the market;
Increasing labor productivity in the agricultural sector.Following the discussions, CSS made several recommendations for ensuring the food security of the Republic of Moldova in the years 2022-2023:
Within three weeks, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) and the Ministry of Economy (ME) will finalize the food security strategy and action plan, which will provide for the application, if necessary, of certain regulations on exports of raw materials and food products in 2022-2023.
Within four weeks, MAIA, ME and the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) will review food safety procedures to eliminate redundant elements in the certification process of food and food producers in the country and abroad.
The Competition Council will monitor the relevant markets and promptly investigate and sanction cases of abuse of a dominant position.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) and the Ministry of Finance (MF) will ensure the smooth flow of transport of raw materials and food at border crossings, including through better cooperation with neighboring countries.
Within three weeks, MAIA and ANSA will review the procedures for ensuring the market presence of refrigerated products.
Within two weeks, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection (MMPS) and MAIA will establish the list of priority products and raw materials for the regulation of the internal market and exports.
Within three weeks, MAIA, MMPS, ME and MAI will review the level of mandatory state reserves for products and raw materials.Photo: Presidency
