Chisinau, September 17, 2026 – The working of small farms in the built-up areas of localities will be regulated by law. The parliament has approved a draft law providing for this in the first reading.

The legislative initiative was drafted by Iurie Levinschi, a member of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) parliamentary faction. The document establishes clear conditions for the operation of small farms in the built-up areas of localities.

The regulations will cover special conditions regarding the consent of owners of neighboring properties, the distance from socio-cultural facilities and the maximum number of animals allowed. The proposed conditions also include the existence of a decision by the local council.

The draft also amends the Law on Veterinary and Sanitary Activities, by introducing measures aimed at ensuring more effective traceability of veterinary medicines.

The document also provides for tougher penalties for purchasing unidentified and unregistered animals. The measure aims to strengthen the responsibility of those who purchase animals and ensure compliance with requirements regarding their identification and registration.

The draft law will be submitted for consideration in parliament’s plenum in its second reading.
